Guardamar Del Segura is a genuine, charming Spanish village along the Mediterranean Sea with 15,000 permanent residents, and is located 30 km south of Alicante airport and 10 km from Torrevieja city. The town has an award-winning and well-maintained sandy beach that stretches a full 14 km along the coast with beach bars deployed at regular intervals. Along the promenade there is also a large selection of restaurants, bars and shops.
Just below the church square you will find a large green area of 840 acres consisting of La Piñada and Parque Reina Sofía. stretching from the center of the city all the way down to the beaches. The forest was planted in the 1920s to prevent sand from entering the city center and mainly consists of pine trees, eucalyptus trees, aloe vera plants and palm trees. The pine trees in particular bind up sand and soil, and function to this day as a sand shield for the city.
In Parque Reina Sofía, children can play under the shade of the hundred-year-old pine trees, and adults can have fun on the pétanque courts. In addition, various activities are organised during the summer, including concerts. Another attraction of this park are the animals that live in it. Squirrels, ducks, swans, colourful peacocks and turtles move along trees, lakes and waterfalls.
There is a good selection of shops and restaurants in Guardamar. Every Wednesday the local market is held between 09:00 and 14:00. The market stretches through the town's cozy streets and here you can find clothes, shoes, fruit and vegetables. On the main street, which runs through the village, there is also a large selection of clothing and shoe shops. There are also many smaller shops that receive fresh fruit and vegetables every day.
